Ep 58: My Product is Great! So, What’s Wrong?

“Everyone thinks my product is great!”  In this episode, I discuss the biggest problem founders face with their products. This issue falls into the ‘stupid human tricks’ category.

I share a story about a recent interview of The Savvy Founder – where I can’t even remember the 4-letter word that every founder should know — Check out episode 51 for a refresher.

The point is everyone is human gets stuck; whether that is being in a new situation and under pressure where you forget a 4-letter word. Or when you’re building your new company and asking people for advice.

I was asked what is the number one issue – and that’s really a way of asking what is the number one stupid human trick that founders’ have?  Easy I answered “Confirmation Bias”

Entrepreneurs are filled with enthusiasm for a bright future that they see so clearly that it might as well be a comet filling the sky that everyone should see.  Yet it’s that enthusiasm that causes us to see what we want to see.

In this episode, I discuss Confirmation Bias; what it is; and how to avoid it by going back to “first principles” and questioning the most fundamental beliefs.

I share a practical example of how to use first principles to shift your understanding to focus on “what you know” rather than “what you think you know.”
